2018 AI Index Report

 
  • TOPICS: More than half (58%) of the research in 2017 was on #MachineLearning compared to 28% in 2010. However, Neural Networks saw a big increase in the compound annual growth rate from 3% between 2010 and 2014 to 37% between 2014 and 2017.
  •  
  • PATENTS: In 2014, about 30% of AI patents originated in the U.S, followed by South Korea and Japan, which each hold 16% of AI patents.
  •  
  • AI Superpowers: China is catching up in publishing papers on AI but Europe is still the leader for now publishing 28% of all AI papers while the US papers lead in terms of citations and US papers are 83% more cited than the global average citations the number of papers published in China increased 150% between 2007 and 2017. Interestingly, the Chinese Govt had 6 times the number of papers than the Chinese Corporations. In terms of citations

  • VC Attractiveness: From 2013 to 2017, AI VC funding increased 4.5 times while all VC funding increased 2 times.
