Ask most people what their dream job would be and one of the most common answers it seems would be able to make your own schedule, create your own success and be your own boss. To do this it takes discipline and some very specific skills. Listed below are the top skills needed to become a successful entrepreneur.
Have you ever searched and searched for something and then found it, right where you left it? How much of your time was wasted searching? It used to happen to me on a daily basis. In today’s busy world with so many distractions that are tugging at us from every direction, being organized is vital. When your schedule, desk and office are neat and organized, you will find that you have more time which in turn will make you much more productive.
People are hardwired to focus on one thing at a time. If you have 20 goals, you will end up most likely spinning your wheels. So try this.
1. Dream BIG – write down ALL of the goals you want to accomplish
2. Prioritize Your Goals – Ask yourself: What will help me move closer to my dreams?
3. Focus On Your Top 3 Goals – create specific actions and tasks for each of your top 3 goals
4. Continue To Add To Your Top 3 - When you have completed one of the goals, replace it with your next one on the list
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until done – Then start over at step 1
When you are your own boss, it is imperative that you are true to yourself. When you are authentic and real, you are building your character. Character is how you act when no one is looking. Coach John Wooden says, “Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.”
Things will not always turn out the way you hoped they would. Failure is a stepping stone that leads to success. When you are optimistic, you believe that good things are happening right now that will aid in your success.
You will always have situations that come up and you can choose to learn from them or not. It’s your choice, your situations can define you or refine you.
KEEP THE MAIN THING, THE MAIN THING
It is easy to get distracted and waste minutes and hours when you are responsible for your own schedule. In most businesses, there is one main thing that will contribute to your bottom line.
Whether it is sales, service, appointments or presentations, determine what the MAIN THING is for your business and do that daily.
Be sure to reward yourself when you achieve your goals. I love to celebrate success. It doesn’t need to be huge, but you need to stop and celebrate. You deserve it!
Master these skills and you are on your way to creating the life of your dreams.
